Accreditation

The M.C.U.I. (U.C.) aims for the highest standards of marshalling possible. This is only possible if marshals are kept up to date with:
GCR and Standing Regulation changes,
Relevant Health & Safety regulations
Relevant changes to Criminal and Civil legislation
The operation of the Medical Team & First Aid
Good Marshalling Practice

In 2004, The Ulster Centre embarked on a Safety initiative funded by the Northern Ireland Sports Council and employing Safety Consultants. The first phase of this is complete. The next phase will be geared towards accreditation of officials with an appropriate recognised body. The marshals too have undertaken the path of accreditation and to this was implemented with some success in 2004. The accreditation process will continue.

It is expected that an Accredited Marshal will be one who:
Has attended a Marshals Seminar at least every 2 years.
Has satisfactorily marshalled at a defined number of Short Circuit and Road Race events.
Has attended a Marshals Training & Development Day at least every 2 years.

The role of the Ulster Centre Marshals Association will be to encourage and facilitate all marshals who seek accreditation and to provide a central core of accredited marshals for every Ulster Centre event.

Being a good marshal is a skill, in fact a set of skills involving:
Safety awareness,
Incident handling
Team work
Accident Management
Dealing with fire
Flagging
Dealing with the general public.

Like most skills these are part taught and part developed with experience. The Seminars and Training days are opportunities to learn the theory and to practice in safe conditions, under the eye of other marshals. Everyone learns at these, the trainers included.

The Ulster Centre Safety Committee is responsible for the training of Marshals. It sponsors a number of Training Seminars and a Training Day. These Seminars are open to all marshals, not just Marshals Association members. The Training Day included fire fighting, dealing with accidents, co-operation with the Medical Services, operation of radios and general good marshalling practice. The Seminars and Training day for 2008 have now been completed.

At the beginning of the season each member is given an Accreditation Card which will be used to endorse attendance at events and may be signed by an Office Bearer of the Association or the Chief Marshal. Cards for 2008 are currently being distributed
